Most cats instinctively know that the cat litter box is where they should do their business. Unfortunately, for some reason or another, some felines do their bathroom thing elsewhere but the litter box โ on the carpet, sofa, bed linens, or your clothes.

The Best Cat Urine Remover Reviews
While DIY homemade concoctions are good in their own way, oftentimes commercial products work best. There are many available in the market that will get rid of not only odor but stains as well.
1. Rocco & Roxie Professional Strength Stain & Odor Eliminator

Carpets, upholstery, hardwood, tile, clothing, litter boxes, crates, etc.
Pet & Human Safety:
Chlorine-free, color-safe, no hazardous propellants, safe around pets & children
Stain Removal Strength:
Deep penetration; works on urine, feces, vomit, organic stains (fresh & set-in)
Rocco & Roxie is a professional-strength stain and odor remover that helps eliminate tough messes safely and thoroughly.
Features:
- Stain and odor remover
- Chlorine-free and color-safe formula
- Contains no hazardous propellants and leaves no residue
- Safe to use around pets and children when used as directed
- Certified safe for all carpets by the Carpet and Rug Institute
- Helps remove tough organic messes like urine, feces, vomit, and other spills
- Works on carpets, floors, furniture, clothing, litter boxes, kennels, carriers, and pet bedding areas
What we like about it:
This cleaner is a great option for pet owners who need a dependable solution for strong odors and messy accidents. It is made to handle more than just urine, so it can also be used on feces, vomit, and other organic spills that tend to leave behind stubborn stains and unpleasant smells. The formula is also gentle in the ways that matter, since it is chlorine free, color safe, and leaves no hazardous residue behind.
Another major advantage is its versatility. It can be used on carpets, floors, furniture, clothing, litter boxes, kennels, carriers, and other pet living spaces, which makes it a practical all-around cleaner for busy homes with pets. The Carpet and Rug Institute certification is also a nice added reassurance for anyone planning to use it on carpeted areas regularly.
What needs improvement:
While it is designed for a wide range of surfaces, pet owners should still spot test first on delicate fabrics or specialty materials to avoid any unexpected reaction. Some messes in heavily soiled areas may also need more than one treatment.
Because it is such a broad-use cleaner, it may not feel as specialized as some formulas made for one specific problem, such as old urine stains or heavily saturated accident spots.
Pros
- Chlorine free
- Works on all kinds of surfaces
- Certified safe for carpet
- Cat and people safe
- Makes tough stains disappear
- Has the Seal of Approval by the Carpet and Rug Institute
Cons
- Smell can be too overpowering
2. Life Miracle All Natural Enzymatic Stain & Odor Eliminator Concentrate
Cleaning Type:
Natural multi-enzyme formula (bio-enzymatic)
Odor Elimination Method:
Breaks down organic matter at source (eliminates, not masking)
Surface Compatibility:
Carpets, upholstery, clothing, car interiors, litter areas, virtually any permeable surface
Pet & Human Safety:
Free from fragrance, dyes, bleach, ammonia; non-toxic & eco-friendly
Stain Removal Strength:
Works on wide range of organic stains (urine, blood, food, etc.); deep enzymatic breakdown
This is what we consider the best eco-friendly cat urine remover. Instead of simply masking bad smells, this concentrate uses natural enzymes to break down the organic matter at the source of the odor. That allows it to work as both a stain remover and an odor eliminator, while also serving as a versatile cleaner for many areas of the home.
Features:
- Made in the USA
- Professional-strength enzyme cleaner concentrate
- Natural enzymes help break down odor- and stain-causing organic messes
- Works as a pet stain remover and carpet cleaner
- Can also be used on laundry stains and odors
- Suitable for virtually any permeable surface around the home
- All-purpose formula helps clean without traditional harsh chemicals
- Concentrated formula helps reduce packaging waste
What we like about it:
This is a very practical choice for pet owners who want one cleaner that can do more than tackle accidents. It works well as a pet stain and odor remover, but it can also be used for laundry, carpets and many other surfaces around the house. That kind of versatility makes it especially appealing if you prefer to keep fewer specialty cleaners on hand.
Another big plus is the concentrate format. A little goes a long way, which adds value and cuts down on excess packaging compared to many ready-to-use cleaners. Since the formula works by breaking down the source of the odor instead of masking it with heavy fragrance, it is also a smart option for homes that prefer a more natural approach to cleaning.
What needs improvement:
Because it is a concentrate, it does require mixing before use, which may be less convenient for people who want a ready-to-spray solution. Some users may also need a little trial and error to find the right dilution for different types of messes and surfaces.
Its versatility is a major strength, but it is still best to spot test first on delicate materials. On tougher or older stains, repeated applications may also be needed for the best results.
Pros
- Eco-friendly
- Removes any type of stain or odor
- Certified safe for carpet
- Kid, pet, and color safe
- Allergy-free, eco-friendly, and non-toxic
- Part of the U.S. EPA Safer Choice Program
Cons
- Pricey
3. Simple Solution Oxy Charged Stain and Odor Remover
Cleaning Type:
Oxidizing (oxygen-based, hydrogen peroxide formula)
Odor Elimination Method:
Oxidizes & neutralizes odor molecules (not enzyme-based)
Surface Compatibility:
Carpets, upholstery, bedding, fabric, clothing, most water-safe surfaces
Pet & Human Safety:
Carpet & Rug Institute (CRI) approved; safe around pets when used as directed
Stain Removal Strength:
Triple-oxy formula; deep penetration for urine, blood, feces, vomit (fast-acting)
A high-strength pet stain and odor remover designed for deep, fast cleanup.
Features:
- Made in the USA
- Stain and odor remover for tough household messes
- Triple-Oxy formula penetrates deep to lift stubborn stains quickly
- Helps remove urine, blood, feces and vomit stains
- Delivers 3x the stain-fighting power compared to the brandโs regular formula
- Powerful odor neutralizers help permanently eliminate pet-related smells
- Helps discourage repeat marking and repeat accidents in the same spot
- Patented 3-in-1 nozzle offers stream, foam or mist application
What we like about it:
This cleaner is a strong option for pet owners dealing with heavy-duty messes that need more than basic spot treatment. The Triple-Oxy formula is designed to work deep into the affected area, making it especially useful for stubborn stains like urine, blood, feces, and vomit. It also goes beyond stain removal by targeting odors thoroughly, which helps keep pets from returning to the same area to mark again.
Another standout feature is the 3-in-1 nozzle sprayer. Having the choice of stream, foam, or mist makes it easier to match the spray style to the type of mess and surface you are cleaning. That added flexibility can make spot cleaning more efficient, especially in homes where accidents happen on different materials and in hard-to-reach areas.
What needs improvement:
Because it is a stronger stain-fighting formula, some users may find it best suited for tougher jobs rather than everyday light cleaning. It may also require careful spot testing first on delicate fabrics or surfaces.
The added power can be a big plus, but heavily set or older stains may still need more than one application for the best results.
Pros
- Made in USA
- 3x stronger than others
- Eradicates odor
- Patented 3-in-1 nozzle sprayer
- Safe to use around pets and children
- Eliminates old, dried and stubborn stains
Cons
- Non-agreeable scent
- Can take up a lot of product to soak and clean a spot
4. Angry Orange Odor Eliminator Concentrate
Cleaning Type:
Citrus-based deodorizer (orange oil; non-enzymatic)
Odor Elimination Method:
Neutralizes odors using citrus oil (not enzyme breakdown)
Surface Compatibility:
Carpet, tile, wood floors, upholstery, litter boxes, grass, indoor & outdoor surfaces
Pet & Human Safety:
Safe around pets & children when used as directed; made from orange peel oil
Stain Removal Strength:
Primarily odor eliminator; not designed for deep stain removal
A powerful pet odor concentrate that helps freshen problem areas inside and outside the home.
Features:
- Cat and dog odor eliminator concentrate
- One bottle makes 1 gallon or four 32-ounce spray bottles of cleaning solution
- Helps deodorize tough pet messes and lingering smells
- Safe to use around pets and children when used as directed
- Works on carpet, tile, wood floors, litter boxes, grass and more
- Suitable for both indoor and outdoor use
- Fresh citrus scent made from real orange peels
- Compact bottle offers long-lasting cleaning value
What we like about it:
This concentrate stands out for its value and versatility. A single small bottle makes a large amount of usable cleaning solution, which is great for pet owners who deal with frequent odors and want something more cost-effective than ready-to-use sprays. It works across a wide range of surfaces too, from carpets and floors to litter boxes and even outdoor areas like grass.
Another big plus is the citrus scent from real orange peels, which gives it a fresher and more natural-smelling finish than many standard pet deodorizers. It is especially useful for tackling strong smells that tend to linger in the home, and the fact that it can be used around both pets and children adds to its everyday appeal.
What needs improvement:
Because it is a concentrate, it takes a little more effort to prepare before use compared with a ready-to-spray formula. Some pet owners may prefer the convenience of a product they can use immediately without mixing.
The citrus scent may also be a bit strong for those who are sensitive to fragrance, especially in smaller or less ventilated spaces.
Pros
- Biodegradable
- Zabba Approved
- Extremely economical
- Safe and non toxic
- Lovely citrus scent
- Can be used safely on most surfaces
- Safe to use around pets and children
- Eliminates old, dried and stubborn stains
Cons
- Not color safe
- Scent can be too overwhelming
5. Natureโs Miracle Enzymatic Formula Stain & Odor Remover

Produces enzymes that break down organic matter; OdorCapture 360 neutralization
Surface Compatibility:
Carpets, hard floors, furniture, fabrics, and other water-safe surfaces
Pet & Human Safety:
Safe for pets and home when used as directed
Stain Removal Strength:
Works on urine, feces, vomit, drool; continues working while organic matter is present
A reliable enzymatic cleaner that breaks down stains and odors at the source.

- Keeps working as long as the mess is still present
- Helps remove tough stains and lingering odors effectively
- Light citrus scent helps leave the home smelling fresh
- Works on carpets, hard floors, furniture, fabrics and more
- Bottle is made with 25% post-consumer recycled material
What we like about it:
This cleaner is a strong choice for cat owners dealing with repeated messes around the home. The enzymatic formula does more than cover up odorsโit targets the source and continues working until the bio-based mess is fully broken down. That makes it especially helpful for urine, vomit, and other organic stains that can leave behind stubborn smells.
Another big advantage is how versatile it is. It can be used on carpets, hard floors, furniture and fabrics, so it works well in homes where accidents can happen in more than one spot. The light citrus scent is also a nice touch, giving the area a cleaner smell without being too heavy.
What needs improvement:
While the citrus scent is pleasant for many users, some cats and owners may still find fragranced cleaners a little noticeable right after application. Good airflow can help the scent fade more quickly.
Older or deeply set stains may also need repeated applications before they are fully removed. Like many enzymatic cleaners, it tends to work best when used as soon as possible after the mess happens.
Pros
- Budget friendly
- Light citrus scent
- Works great on targeted spots
- Comes in easy to use spray bottle
- Breaks down even old odors and stains
- Bottle is made from 25% recycled material

Cons
- Highly perfumed
- Change the formulations and packaging constantly

Itโs designed to be used on carpets, upholstery, bedding, fabric toys, clothing and other water-safe surfaces.

- Light citrus scent
- Works great on targeted spots
- Comes in easy to use spray bottle
- Breaks down even old odors and stains

What we like about it:
Perfect for cat accidents or intentional wees, it works on all types of water-safe surfaces. OUT! PetCare Advanced Stain & Odor Remover with 3x Pro-Bacteria and Enzyme Formula gets all the smell out and takes the stains with it. You can use a black light to check for leftover urine, but if youโve saturated the area well, there shouldnโt be any left.
Itโs a great deal of product for a very inexpensive price. It has a nice light lemony smell that dissipates once itโs dry, so there shouldnโt be a problem if youโre sensitive to scents.
What needs improvement:
Has to be used with caution on floors. The stuff can strip floors even when used exactly as directed.

- Uses enzyme + pro-bacteria formula for deep odor breakdown
- Eliminates pheromones to discourage repeat marking
- Works on multiple surfaces including carpets, tile, and sealed wood

What we like about it:
It works on many surfaces! Thornell doesnโt just remove the urine smell from carpets or floors, it can even take on pearls that have been soaking in pee for a long time. (Donโt ask us how.) If youโve got cats, then you know that they can get anywhere and, if they have a problem, can eliminate in the unlikeliest of places.
This product can save precious carpets from going to the bin. It has a nice smell that wonโt overpower you. What comes out is just a light scent of clean. It doesnโt use enzymes to treat spots, but it works just as fast, and in some cases, even faster. Incidents of cats going back to the same area is drastically reduced, sometimes to zero.
What needs improvement:
While itโs performance on several types of surfaces is excellent, Thornell Cat Odor Off doesnโt work as well on concrete floors. It can take a whole lot of scrubbing and many applications to take the cat pee scent off.

- Targets odor at source instead of masking
- Highly effective for cat urine and spray odors

- Helps discourage pets from remarking the same spot
- Works on carpets, upholstery, and area rugs
- Safe to use around cats and dogs when used as directed
- From a trusted pet mess cleaning brand
What we like about it:
This spray is a solid pick for pet owners who need something quick and effective for everyday accidents. It does more than freshen the surfaceโit works down into soft materials to remove both stains and the odors that come with them. That makes it especially useful for urine messes that tend to linger and attract pets back to the same area.
Another thing to like is its versatility. It can be used on carpets, upholstery, and area rugs, so it covers many of the spots where accidents usually happen. The formula is also designed to help prevent remarking, which is a big plus for homes with cats or dogs that tend to revisit old accident spots.
What needs improvement:
While it works well on common pet messes, deeply set or older stains may need more than one treatment to fully lift the mark and odor. As with many cleaning sprays, results can vary depending on the fabric or how long the mess has been sitting.
The formula is also best suited for soft household surfaces, so it may not be as flexible as some multi-surface cleaners made for hard floors, wood, or car interiors.
Pros
- Uses oxygen-based (hydrogen peroxide) formula for fast stain removal
- Destroys urine odors on contact rather than masking
- Works on both soft surfaces and hard surfaces (carpet, upholstery, sealed floors)
- Effective on multiple stain types including urine, food, and grease
- Ready-to-use sprayโno mixing required
Cons
- Not enzymaticโmay be less effective on deeply embedded or recurring urine odors
- May cause discoloration on delicate fabrics if not spot tested
- Contains chemicals that may irritate skin or pets if misused
- Strong scent may not appeal to sensitive users

What Should You Look for When Purchasing a Cat Urine Odor Remover?
In order to get the best possible product for you, these are the things to check when purchasing a cat urine odor eliminator:
1. Ingredients

While professional strength stain and odor removers have the capability to thoroughly remove any untoward scents, some may not be the safest to use around kids and pets. If youโre worried about using tons of chemicals, there are enzymatic cleaners that utilize non-toxic ingredients. Some are also completely organic.
2. Target surface
Some formulas are all-purpose, while others are designed to specifically target odor and stains in fabric (linens, carpets, etc.) or solid surfaces (hardwood floors, tiles). Itโs good to choose one that is directed towards the particular surface you want to treat for the best results.
3. Method of application
Cat urine odor remover products come in different packagings. Some are in ready-to-spray bottles for easy cleaning of small spots. For large or multiple targeted areas, you might need to go for concentrated solutions that you can mix up and use as needed.
What is The Best Way to Neutralize Cat Urine?
There are many ways you can neutralize odors from cat urine. There are homemade pantry staples you can use such as vinegar and baking soda. Vinegar is often mixed with water and sprayed on floors and walls. The acid in the vinegar neutralizes the alkaline in the urine, and although smelly itself, it will take the cat urine smell with it when its scent disappears in the course of a few days.
Baking soda works by absorbing moisture and smell when sprinkled on the affected surface. Itโs a great odor remover, which is why you often see it as an additional ingredient in many kinds of cat litter.

Different products use different ways to target odor and stain. One of the most popular types is the enzymatic cleaner. The enzymes in the products, which speed up chemical reactions, work by breaking down stains and odors. Cleaners with enzymes work fast, and if itโs a particularly good product, it should remove all traces of urine smell without you needing to redo the process again.
Aside from enzyme cleaners, there are cat urine removers that are completely organic, while others use a proprietary formula to eliminate unwanted odor and stain. If youโre unsure how to pick the best stain and odor remover for your cat problem, below is a guide on how to choose. Weโve also rated and reviewed several cat urine remover products to find out which is the best one in the market.
Bonus Section: Why Do Cats Pee Outside the Litter Box?
Contrary to some peopleโs opinion, cats do not pee outside their litter box to get even with their owners. The reason can be something as simple as the litter box not being changed. Cats are very sensitive to smell, and if you do not take out the waste and change the litter box regularly, your cats will eliminate elsewhere. Who wants to keep going to a bathroom with an unflushable toilet?
It could also be because you have multiple cats in your household. Some cats do not like sharing their litter box with another. As a rule, keep as many litter boxes around your home as the number of your cats.

Some cats spray to mark their territory or let other felines know that they are ready to mate. This is a completely hormonal issue and may be fixed by having your pets neutered or spayed. Others do so because of a feud with other cats in the household or because they are stressed or anxious.
The last reason could be a medical issue. Older cats who have arthritis have a difficult time getting inside their litter box, particularly if its side is too tall or if the litter box is located somewhere difficult to go to (somewhere that requires going up a flight of stairs, for example). Eliminating outside could also be a sign of urinary tract infection, diabetes, and more. To make sure that this is not the case, get your cat to a veterinarian as soon as possible.
